The NFT "Anunciação (Amazônia Mega Drive)" is a type of “digital sculpture”, conceived by artist Thiago Martins de Melo in collaboration with writer and curator Germano Dushá and designer Raul Luna. Launched at SP-Arte 2022 (São Paulo’s International Art Fair), the work is the result of an unprecedented partnership between Kura, Tropix (marketplace for digital art) and Galeria Millan. “Anunciação” is a hologram that projects, through sci-fi vibes, the image of a talisman. The object is a reference to the Muiraquitã: an artifact that belongs to the native peoples of the Lower Amazon. With strong symbolism, it is linked to socio political functions as well as to magical and religious aspects. Traditionally, the talisman, which has an amphibian shape and is sculpted in green stone, is placed on top of an inverted church, reproducing the counter-effects of the colonization and catechization, highlighting the spiritual contrast. Underneath, a sword crossed with a bludgeon symbolizes the clash of worlds through physical confrontation. Just like in other Thiago Martins de Melo’s art works, this NFT combines references from different historical periods to comment on urgent nowadays topics, creating a baroque of its own, being anachronistic and anarchic. Far from simplifications, the artist's production speaks of a systemic, chaotic and non-linear machinery.
